Project Insights
Income with our partner Iberdrola completed the concentrated solar power plant project in Kuraymat
with a capacity of 140 megawatts in 2007. This project is unique as it was classified as the largest
concentrated solar power plant in Egypt and the world using hybrid technologies.
The client was : Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC)
Summary on project: The El-Kuraymat Solar Thermal Power Station is an Integrated Solar Combined Cycle (ISCC) power plant located in Kuraymat, Giza Governorate, Egypt, approximately 95 km south of Cairo.
The project was commissioned in 2011 and has a total installed capacity of around 140 MW, combining:
- Natural gas–fired combined cycle generation, and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) using parabolic trough technology.
- The solar field contributes approximately 20 MW of thermal solar power, which is integrated into the steam cycle to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
At the time of its development, the project was considered:
- The first ISCC solar thermal power plant in Egypt.
- One of the largest hybrids CSP projects worldwide combining solar thermal energy with conventional power generation.
